About us: Founded by Thierry Gisserot & Xavier Thoumieux in 2006, Ophiliam & Cie is the brainchild of a partnership and investment strategy that has been in place for nearly 30 years, offering a unique combination of expertise in private equity and entrepreneurship.

Between 1998 & 2010, Thierry Gisserot & Xavier Thoumieux built a solid investment track record via major funds such as CDC Equity Capital, Charterhouse & IDI (which they managed as Founder Partners) covering all ranges of transactions (small, mid & large caps as equity investors as well as mezzanine and debt strategies). During this period, Thierry Gisserot & Xavier Thoumieux were lead investors in some of the most significant LBO's (notably TDF, Nexity, Fives, Cegelec & Epolia) closing more than 30 deals as private equity investors supporting management teams.

Subsequently, Thierry Gisserot & Xavier Thoumieux became entrepreneurs by founding and developing Funecap from scratch in 2010 to reach €800m in revenue in 2025, demonstrating their prowess to rapidly grow high-potential companies. With more than 400 acquisitions since its inception along with strong organic growth, Funecap is now the leading European group in funeral infrastructure and services, with Ophiliam & Cie driving its development.

This entrepreneurial and managerial mindset, forged by more than 15 years at the helm of Funecap as founders and managers, gives them the ability to take on the operational management of any portfolio company, coupled with solid experience in creating and structuring robust internal processes (finance and reporting, M&A, tenders, etc.).

In addition, Thierry Gisserot & Xavier Thoumieux have extensive experience working with local authorities, including a deep understanding of public procurement procedures and administrative dynamics, developed through investment in Epolia and TDF and soon after through the expansion of Funecap's crematorium portfolio, notably through concession contracts ("Délégations de Service Public" or public service delegations), which has grown from 0 to 150 across Europe over the last 10 years.

Over the past 30 years Thierry Gisserot & Xavier Thoumieux have managed four funds totaling €5 billion under management, delivering an IRR of over 25%. In addition, they have invested together, directly or through Ophiliam & Cie, more than €1.35 billion in equity, generating a multiple of 3.4x (3.9x on investments made).

Today, Ophiliam & Cie's mission is to support a limited number of market leaders offering an excellent risk/return ratio. Thus, Ophiliam & Cie currently invests across four asset classes:

  • Infrastructure: Core, Core+ and value added
  • Private Equity: Consolidation & Buyouts
  • Real Estate
  • Opportunistic investments
